Tank Heaters and Insulation

TANK HEATERSStanmar “MAT” heaters are furnished to easily fit the walls of a tank, vessel, drum, or shaped to fit over a pump or many complex configurations. Construction is of a stainless steel cloth with heating cable permanently mounted on the inside surface. Size can vary from just a few square feet to several hundred square feet. They give uniform heating, with a wide range of watts per foot available. Equipped with Incoloy sheath heating cable, the mats can withstand very corrosive and high temperature environments. Incoloy cable offers exceptional resistance to reducing acids, oxidizing chemicals and chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking. standard Incoloy sheath heating cable constructions can operate continuously at temperatures to 1000° F, and with the unit end cap of welded construction, unit sheath temperature can withstand 1500° F. In less corrosive and extreme temperature conditions, copper heating cable can be furnished.

One of the greates advantages of the mat heaters is the minimal labor required for installation. To insure a snug fit, the mats are furnished with fastening bands. After the bands have been secured, the heating cable is safely protected by stainless cloth.

Stanmar “MAT” Heaters are very rugged and have an unlimited life expectancy. The metal and mineral construction assures the units will not age as will organic materials. The mats are easy to install and often are moved from one vessel to another. The mats are custom designed to allow for stairs, manholes, and nozzles.

APPLICATIONS FOR MAT HEATERS

  • Maintain temperatures of product by offsetting ambient heat losses from tank or vessel walls.
  • Provide Hi-Lo dual heat capacity to compensate for start up conditions.
  • Eliminate condensation of saturated vapors by stabilizing internal tank temperatures.
  • Minimize residue build-up of deposits or sediments due to product cooling.
  • Minimize system maintenance by residue build-up

ORDERING INFORMATION:

GENERAL
Custom design and engineering are included without fee for normal tank heating systems and controls purchased from Stanmar. The purchaser shall provide complete physical and design parameters including acticipated operating procedures.
Normally a mat heater system is used to maintain the temperature of a fluid in a vessel, with product heat-up being a secondary consideration. Since the fluid level will change, the upper and lower operating limits should be specified. The heater mats will be configured in zones so that the heat input can be monitored to conform to the requirements created by the liquid level.

VESSEL DIMENSIONS

The area of the wall to be heated can be calculated fro the height and diameter of a cylindrical tank, for estimating purposes. However, the detailed design must allow for access openings and obstructions in the tank construction. This will normally require a sketch or drawing with all obstructions located, sized and tied to a common reference point.

INSULATION COVERS

Insulcovers are available from Stanmar for various sized horizontal and vertical bulk tanks , portable totes, pumps, valves, etc. They come complete with all necessary mounting hardware and require minimal labor for installation.

Standard insulcovers have a servicetemperature to 550° F. Construction is PTFE coated and impregnated fiberglass, 17 oz./sq. Yd. They are available in other materials and configurations to meet various temperature and chemical compatibilities. Contact a Stanmar representative for further information.

CONTROLS AND ACCESSORIES

Stanmar offers a complete line of temperature sensors, power distribution controls, plus mat installation accessories including:

  • Single and dual thermostats rated Nema 4 or 7
  • RTD and thermocouple sensors and controls
  • Contactor and solid state power controls
  • Nema 4 or 7 junction boxes
  • SS bands, pipe straps, and clips

Mats can be supplied with thermocouples attached. When temperature averaging is desired, 2-4 thermocouples can be supplied.
